Weight Management

Obesity in animals is linked to an increased risk of conditions

There are lots of different diets available and it is important to find the right one to suit your pet.

Weight management is an important part of your pet’s health care. Obesity in animals is linked to an increased risk of conditions such as osteoarthritis and diabetes mellitus as well as impacting on their ability to exercise and breath.   Conversely pets that seem unable to gain weight can often have an underlying medical condition.

If you are unsure if your pet is of a healthy weight, please feel free to  pop in and speak to one of our nurses who can advise on diet and exercise.

At Cherry Tree we offer a large range of diets from both Royal Canin and Hills. A good diet will be well balanced and provide your pet with all the necessary nutrients to stay happy and healthy.

Some prescription diets can help to manage certain medical conditions such as:

  • diabetes
  • pancreatitis
  • bladder stones/urinary problems
  • hyperthyroidism
  • food intolerances
  • sensitive tummies

If your pet requires a special diet it is likely they will need to be fed this for a long period of time or even the rest of their lives.

At Cherry Tree we offer nurse clinics where you can bring your pet in to be weighed and body scored. During this consultation the nurse will discuss your pet’s current diet and make suggestions or recommendations where necessary. Weight management clinics are also available to help your pet lose those extra pounds!
